The mystery plant for February is a perennial which grows to 1-3 feet tall. The main stem is green and mostly glabrous. The leaves are alternate and grow to 3-4 inches long, 1-1.5 inches wide and are sharply toothed . The basal leaves are sometimes lacking. The lower cauline leaves soon drop off and the central stem produces a terminal panicle-like inflorescence. The floral rays are bright yellow.
